Adoption status: Adopted!

Hi! My name is now Dari. I was one of eight puppy mill dogs recently rescued by DCSIR. Together, we were called the Missouri 8. But each one of us is special, and I want to tell you my story. It hurts to talk about it, but I remember life in the puppy mill so vividly. And I need you to know what it’s like. I lived in a cage. All the time. I was so hungry, but the only things I got to eat were a few scraps that someone would occasionally toss in my cage. I was forced to breed, only to watch my puppies be taken from me before they were ready. I lived a life of fear, waiting for the day when I was no longer useful and would simply be killed.

I honestly thought that day had come when I was taken out of my cage and put into a van with seven of my friends. But we weren’t killed. We had been saved from that hellish existence. I am still afraid, but I’m hopeful now that I’m in a foster home. I get to eat good food that my foster mom feeds to me. I can go outside and feel the wind in my fur, and the grass beneath my paws. I always thought that all people were mean and hurtful, but when I am petted and caressed by my foster parents, I begin to have hope that one day, I can trust people. I know if you look into my eyes you’ll see fear, but look closer. You’ll also see love, and hope.

Now comes the hard part. I was told that I was heartworm positive, which means I will need expensive medical treatment to save my life. Now that I see how good life can be, I don’t want to die. But I need your help. DCSIR said they would do everything they could to make me better, but they can’t do it alone. They need your support and your donations to help pay for my treatment. My body may be sick, but my spirit and soul want to fight. I know I’m a good girl, and all I want is to know what it’s like to be truly loved. Please help me get my second chance at life.

Dari is a sweet, loving Shiba who is spayed, up to date on vaccinations, and is great with other dogs. Please share Dari’s story and help save her life!
