Hello everyone, my new name is now Goku! I’m a 25 lb, 12-year-old male Shiba Inu and I just lost the only home I had ever known. My elderly guardian had to go into a nursing home so I went into a boarding facility. I lived my whole life with them and three other dogs who are also seniors. They had rescues take them in too. I lived with a Doberman, Chihuahua, and a Shepherd mix. While in boarding, I was so scared of the unfamiliar world around me. I wasn’t sure if I would go into a shelter and if I did, there would be a chance that I wouldn’t make it out alive since people don’t line up to adopt senior dogs. DC SIR has a few senior dogs with a lot of medical care. They don’t really have the funds to take me but they know how scared us seniors can be when we find ourselves alone in a world that we used to feel safe in when we had our family.

I don’t ride so well in the car so I cried a lot on my way to Shiba HQ. But when I saw I was going to a house I was real happy. My smile got even bigger when I got yummy treats and met another nice senior like myself. After I got fresh water, food and rest, I got to meet all the dogs at Shiba HQ. I just loved everyone! From the young 7 month old puppy to the seniors my age. I felt so much better seeing other dogs that were happy and trusting of the people taking care of them! DC SIR says I am a very sweet boy and once I am cleared medically, I can go to a forever home! Please don’t overlook me because I am older. I have so much love to give and I am so grateful for any attention you will give me. I walk up and down stairs just fine, and I let the volunteers trim my long nails and brush my matted fur. I could give you so much love if you just give me a chance.  Email adoption@dcsir.org  and tell them that you’d like to adopt Goku!
