Akiko

Adoption status: Adopted!

AKIKO

Hi, my name is Akiko! I’m a cream Shiba Inu and I’m only about 1 year old. My new name means “sparkle” or “bright.” I’ve been in a shelter in Maryland, but they hadn’t heard about DC SIR yet because it’s a new place. Luckily, DC SIR heard I was here and jumped over just hours after hearing about my story. I was put up for adoption today and had THREE families come to adopt me but they all fell through.

DC SIR said that’s probably a good thing since Shiba’s are not for everyone and they’ll do everything they can to make sure I get placed in the right home. My fur is in bad shape and I’m real skinny but DC SIR says I’ll look super nice once I’m on their nutrition program.

I get very excited when I meet other dogs and cats. But DC SIR said they’ll let you know later if I can go to a home with other pets. I don’t really know much, like “sit” or “stay” but I sit up on my hind legs and everyone thinks I’m just adorable. I have a ton of energy and I need to go to a high energy home who can keep up with my activity needs. I’ve been in the shelter for almost 2 weeks and I’m ready for a home with a soft bed! I can’t wait to meet everyone!

DC SIR does not have a shelter facility. To meet our adoptable dogs, interested adopters can attend one of our monthly adoption events.
