Anika

Adoption status: Adopted!

Hello, my new name is Anika. I am a 7-year young Shiba Inu that was abandoned at the same shelter twice. Everyone keeps telling me what a sweet girl I am, so I don’t understand why I keep ending up in the same scary place.

My last family adopted me a few years ago from the shelter and I was so happy thinking I had found my forever home. There were lots of people and other dogs in my new home, making living there fun and exciting since there was so much going on, but it was also kind of stressful.
A few weeks ago, I decided I was tired of sharing my food with the other dogs in the house and told the others to back off. My family decided they could not have a dog that did not share nicely and took me back to the shelter.

They told the shelter I was great, that I know things like sit and paw, I am house trained and well-mannered, except for not wanting to share. I don’t understand, if something is mine why am supposed to give it up if I don’t want too?

So I ended back in the shelter my first family took me to. It was scary in there with lot of dogs all worried we’d never get out. I would hide in the corner and not look at anyone when they passed my kennel. However, I loved it when I got to go outside. I would play and smile forgetting I would have to go back inside when my time was up. The staff soon realized how special I was and needed a rescue to come and get me. That is when DC SIR stepped in to give me a second chance. They don’t care if I am not great at sharing, and promise to help me find a forever.

Please email adoption@dcsir.org if you would like to adopt Miya!

DC SIR is a non-profit, volunteer-run network of foster homes in the Washington, DC area.

DC SIR does not have a shelter facility. To meet our adoptable dogs, interested adopters can attend one of our monthly adoption events.
