Baku

Adoption status: Adopted!

BAKU

Hi! My name is now Baku and I’m a 18 month old red male Shiba Inu. I found myself in rescue because my family didn’t feel they could care for me. They were gone 12 hour days and I would get real anxious and nervous when they were gone. They also got a Pitbull puppy who would attack me so I was always scared. My family bought me from a pet store, not knowing that 99% of puppies from pet stores are puppy mill dogs. Our parents live in horrible conditions and fearfulness is hereditary and rampant in the mills. I am fearful of men in uniforms and scary sounds.

So let me tell you a little about myself. I have a mangled rear leg and the vet thinks it’s from a tourniquet that was tied on my leg. It doesn’t hurt and it’s how I’ll be all my life but DC SIR vet will take a look at it too. I have a small tail but it is so cute. I am in foster care with 3 other dogs and they won’t attack me so I’m happy to romp and play with them without fear of being attacked!

So my family searched for the perfect place for me, and that is how they found DC SIR. They have trainers who specialize in fearful dogs & foster homes who have taken classes on working with fearful dogs. My new foster home has friendly dogs for me to play with as they work with my fear issues. I’m very lovable and warmed up right away to my foster mom and dad. I’m good with dogs & will be tested with cats. DC SIR said they will update my progress in foster care regularly. If you are considering adopting me please see my album for resources on communicating with & caring for a fearful dog.
