Saru

Adoption status: Adopted!

Hi, my name is now Saru. To my family who dumped me in the kill shelter: Do you remember when I was young and fuzzy and you loved me so much? You gushed to everyone how adorable I was. You laughed at my awkward walk as I stumbled around your feet. You used to complain about how much hair you had to clean up when I shed. But when I got older, I got sick and started to lose my hair. Soon my body was raw and scarred from neglect. My eyes are dry and inflamed with untreated conjunctivitis and my ears are pus-filled and ache with infection. My body smells like years of neglect.

The look of love and adoration was replaced with pity and disgust. I always loved you, even when you yelled at me or ignored me. But when I needed you most, when my fuzzy fur was gone, the look of the pain in my eyes and the howls from the ache in my body did not stop you from dumping me in a kill shelter to die alone, frightened and in pain.

Saru will need a few months of care and extensive rehabilitation with DCSIR before he is available for adoption. We estimate his age to be around 4 years old. He was just neutered. He does not seem to have any basic training, but he will have training in rescue and he is house trained and very eager to please. DC Shiba Inu Rescue is a 501c3 non-profit and operates on generous donations from kind hearted individuals. Please consider donating to Saru’s fund so that he may fully recover and we can continue to rescue dogs like him.

Saru appears to be good with other dogs but we will not know until he is medically cleared for further interactions.

DC SIR is a non-profit, volunteer-run network of foster homes in the Washington, DC area.

DC SIR does not have a shelter facility. To meet our adoptable dogs, interested adopters can attend one of our monthly adoption events.
