Lexi

Adoption status: Adopted!

Hi my name is Lexi I’m a red female Shiba Inu. I was born 2/15/2004 so that makes me 11 years old! I have lived with a family my entire life. I was well-loved and taken care of my whole life, but my family is no longer able to keep me and my sister, Roxy, also a senior, so we are now in rescue with DC SIR. You may remember my brother Niito. He was surrendered to DC SIR a year ago & found an incredible family! I lived with lots of different people in my life, roommates, children, lots of other dogs & cats so I am great with everyone I meet. They all love me. I have hypothyroid which is very manageable with affordable pills and incontinence which is also manageable with medicine. I have a large fatty mass on my stomach which is believed to be benign. DC SIR will be putting me and Roxy on their Senior health program & doing a thorough vet check and senior panel to make sure we are in tip top shape before we go to a real forever home. They say senior Shibas are the most costly but also the most grateful. I’m real grateful for the big bowl of boiled chicken my foster mom brought when she came to pick me up.

I’ve been with DC SIR for a day so let me tell you more about me. I was a bit nervous in my new home at first but I really love boiled chicken so I started to follow my foster mom and she kept giving me delicious treats. I also love to sit in the sun. I really love that you rub my belly too. If you forget to keep rubbing, I’ll remind you with a gentle tap. Make sure to ask my foster mom for a video! I’ve met all the foster dogs and cats at Shiba HQ and get along with everyone just great. I inspected the entire house and my foster mom said I have full access to the house just like the other dogs but I still prefer to be in the room with someone. The first afternoon in foster I jumped up on the couch and curled up on my foster mom’s lap. She comforted me with gentle pets until I fell asleep. I’m real agile for an 11 year old! I love to go on walks and explore. I’ve also been doing the Shiba 500 around the house and playing with my foster mom. She says I’m as playful as a puppy. I just hope I can be loved as much as when I was a puppy.

DC SIR is a non-profit, volunteer-run network of foster homes in the Washington, DC area.

DC SIR does not have a shelter facility. To meet our adoptable dogs, interested adopters can attend one of our monthly adoption events.
