Hello everyone, my new name is now Hanabi and it means “Fireworks” in Japanese. I am a 11-month-old male black and tan Shiba Inu puppy. I was purchased from a pet store in New York. In my very short life I have been in 5 different homes. I did not have the appropriate puppy training and socialization so I don’t have a great track record with my many homes. I have nipped multiple people, I resource guard my food and entrances and I’m not good with cats or other dogs. DC SIR knows they can work with my resource guarding and behavior issues since they have great success using reward-based training and relationship building.

However, DC SIR will require adopters to be savvy in canine body language and committed to continuing science-based training methods with a DC SIR approved trainer. DC SIR was also told that I have fly-biting syndrome which has been related to gastrointestinal issues. DC SIR will let you know more about that as I am vetted and placed on a species-appropriate raw diet. Let me tell you a bit about myself. I rode very well in the car with the DC SIR volunteers. DC SIR says I am a very sweet boy when I meet new people and I love to give kisses. When I arrived at DC SIR they tried to take me for a walk but I was all over the place – up and down and all around! My foster mom says I walk crazy and something about learning loose leash walking. I met DC SIR neutral dog Katniss on leash but they wouldn’t let me go to her because she was uncomfortable with me and I tried to hump her. After a brief look at the other dogs the volunteer took me into the shower to get cleaned up for my surgery tomorrow morning. I’m getting neutered! I wasn’t fond of the shower but she took her time and made sure I was comfortable and I had lots of yummy treats and praise. I don’t like it when anyone touches my rear and I will snap at them but that won’t be for long because they said I’m super smart and receptive to training!
