Kami

Adoption status: Adopted!

Hi! My new name is Kami and I am a very special Shiba Inu puppy. I was born on December 9, 2014 in a puppy mill in Lancaster, PA. It was a horrible place that my parents will die in. A family bought me but noticed I had a head tilt and walked in circles so they took me to the vet in January. The vet gave me drugs and watched to see if I would get better. But a month later, I was worse. By April I was walking in circles, had mild facial paralysis and my condition worsened. My family refused neurologist and brought me back to the vet at the end of April to euthanize me. I was so scared. I wasn’t a bad girl. Why can’t I live and play like other dogs?

I was real lucky that the kind people at the veterinary office convinced my owners to surrender me to the hospital. A nice employee took me home for a short time but I didn’t play well with the other dogs. Soon the vet office found DC SIR. They said they didn’t have the funding to care for me long term but DC SIR successfully treated rescues like me before. DC SIR asked their vet if I could get better like the other dogs. They think I can. But they told me no matter what, that I’m going to be loved and cared for and no one will dump me anywhere ever again.

I have only been at Shiba HQ for a few hours but I already feel loved and safe. I met a really nice dog named Katniss and she was gentle and patient with me. Once I was comfortable with her, she introduced me to the other dogs. I played a bit too! Right now, I’m sleeping on my foster mom’s lap as she tells you my story. I hope to trust people again soon and find a forever family when I am better.

Please consider donating to my medical fund, DC SIR has taken on a lot of special needs dogs and they need your help. I hope to be happy and healthy soon so I can find a family to love me forever.

DC SIR is a non-profit, volunteer-run network of foster homes in the Washington, DC area.

DC SIR does not have a shelter facility. To meet our adoptable dogs, interested adopters can attend one of our monthly adoption events.
