Hi, my name is Kenichi. I’m a handsome 2 and a half-year-old Shiba Inu! You may recognize me from when I was just a 7-month-old puppy! DC SIR rescued me nearly 2 years ago and so many people wanted to adopt me! I went to a family that had another Shiba Inu but they said I was too difficult to train and wanted to return me a few months after adopting me. Instead, they went to a training class with me to work with my puppy behavior. Two years later I found myself needing a new home and thankfully, DC SIR was right there to support me and welcome me back.

I was returned for jumping on the kids, not liking it when I was told, “no” and getting defensive when I was put in my crate. DC SIR is so sorry I didn’t get the training I needed and hope to find an active family who understands the importance of training for lifelong companionship!

When I was with DC SIR as a puppy I loved meeting and playing with nearly every dog I met! I went on a lot of adventures with my foster family and I was a very good boy. But in the past couple years I haven’t had much interaction with other dogs and DC SIR was told I can be somewhat reactive on leash when I see other dogs. I did get to meet some nice rescues and seemed to get along fine.

Kenichi will be re-evaluated for homes with dogs, cats and children after his 2 week medical and behavioral assessment. Kenichi will require a force free training contract. Please read our training resources.

Please email adoption@dcsir.org and tell them you’d like to adopt Kenichi!
