Mei

Hello everyone, my new name is now Mei and it means “blooming” in Japanese. I was found as a stray about a month ago. I’ve been living in the shelter scared of dying here all alone and in pain. I don’t understand why I was discarded after giving a lifetime of love, but I’m not about to stop! I am old, my skin is sore and bald, my joints ache and my teeth are rotted. But through all this pain, I have hope in the kindness of people. I seek out the soft touch of affection from people who would choose to touch my dirty fur. It makes me feel loved like I once was in my youth when everyone wanted to play with a puppy. I am old now but I feel deeply. I’m a tiny girl at just 15lbs. The shelter estimated my age to be 10 years old.

When DC SIR heard about me they knew I would thrive in their care. They said they could see the pain in my eyes from my shelter photo. DC SIR volunteers drove 10 hours to get me to Shiba HQ where I could be cleaned and cared for. They have the very best care for senior dogs with skin issues. DC SIR also noticed that my teeth are some of the worst they have ever seen. I have a large abscess and they want to get me into dental surgery right away. DC SIR says I was obviously bred quite a bit. The backyard breeder that was done with me probably set me loose on the street to starve or get picked up by animal control. I’m lucky it was the latter. When I arrived at Shiba HQ, I was so happy to meet everyone. I shook my tail to greet the new people. I went straight to the shower and they washed out a lot of dirty brown water and my musty smell. I was very good and didn’t even squirm when I got my nails trimmed. I met all the nice dogs and cats at Shiba HQ and did great with everyone! DC SIR says that when I am healthy, I will have a lot of people wanting to give me a forever home! Mei is in need of extensive dental care, senior wellness and tests to ensure that I can be ready for a forever home. Please consider making a donation towards Mei’s care so that we can schedule her vetting and surgeries as soon as possible.
