Nishi

Adoption status: Adopted!

Hi! My name is now Nishi, and I was one of the Missouri 8. My name means ‘west’ in Japanese, and that’s because myself and my puppy mill brothers and sisters came to DC SIR from the west! Since my name symbolizes our whole group, and I’m one of the older dogs, I try to be strong and brave, even though we were all so very afraid. I’ve also suffered quite a bit. DC SIR already had to have a mammary tumor removed and my back leg hurts a lot from all the nights I spent crammed into a cage.

When DC SIR came to rescue us, it was like a huge weight had been lifted from my shoulders. Riding on the transport was still a little scary, but I knew in my heart that we were all going to a better place. I had faith that they would take care of me, and my brothers and sisters.

Once I got to my foster home, it was like a whole new world opened up to me. I felt so safe and warm laying in the arms of my foster dad. I met new Shiba friends and we all follow our foster mom around to see what she’s doing. The food tastes like it comes from heaven – certainly we never had anything so good in the puppy mill! I still get scared and have nightmares sometimes, but I’m trying to stay strong. I do have a little trouble walking up and down the stairs. DC SIR says I may have to get surgery on my leg, so I’m asking if you’ll help them take care of me. All I want is to be safe and loved. I’m hoping that the last of my prayers are answered – that DC SIR will get me healthy and find me a perfect forever home!

Please consider donating for Nishi’s medical care, and email adoption@dcsir.org and tell them you’d like to adopt Nishi!

DC SIR is a non-profit, volunteer-run network of foster homes in the Washington, DC area.

DC SIR does not have a shelter facility. To meet our adoptable dogs, interested adopters can attend one of our monthly adoption events.
