Chika

Adoption status: Adopted!

Hello everyone, my new name is now Chika and it means, ??, ‘thousand, excellent’ in Japanese. I am a 23lb female Shiba Inu and I was born February 18, 2015. My owners surrendered me to DC SIR because I have some reactivity issues, including leash reactivity with other dogs in close proximity, and resource guarding with food and high–value treats. I did not do well in the home environment for their location and lifestyle. They waited a couple months to surrender me to DC SIR because there was a wait list for available foster homes but my family wanted to ensure I got into DC SIR’s program. I am well trained and I am very food motivated. DC SIR will need to assess me for a minimum of 2 weeks to determine the requirements for my forever home. If you think you would be interested in adopting me, DC SIR recommends you read the information about training on their website! I was a little nervous on the car ride to Shiba HQ but I sat in the front seat with the volunteer and took delicious treats from her. When I got to Shiba HQ, I got to explore the yard on my own. After some time, I got to see my friend from the assessment, neutral dog Katniss. I was happy to see her and we got along right away. I soon met the other dogs at Shiba HQ. I was a little growly with the new dogs but soon realized everyone was getting rewarded for positive greetings. The total introduction took several hours to ensure that I had a positive experience with all the rescues. I even played with the cream Shiba, Shiro, who kept sticking his face in my face and play bowing at me to chase him. I’m still new and nervous at this strange place so DC SIR will have more details about me over the next couple weeks. Please follow and share my story to see if your home would be a good fit for me! Chika is a black and tan 1 year 11-month-old Shiba Inu (DOB is 2/18/15). She will be in assessment for a minimum of 2 weeks. She will be up-to-date on vaccination, 4dx tested, and temperament assessed.
