Adoption status: Adopted!
Kouki is a 10-month-old black and tan male Shiba Inu Mix

Hello everyone, my new name is now Kouki (ko-kee) and it means, ‘brightness” in Japanese. I am a 10-month old male, black and tan, Shiba Inu mix and I weigh about 25lbs. I came from a SC shelter on a really long transport with a couple other dogs thanks to some very nice volunteers with DC SIR. The shelter had me for some time while DC SIR waited for foster homes and funds to take in more rescues. When the volunteers picked me up, they noticed I had a very bad limp. The transport said it must have happened in the crate but DC SIR made an appointment to have that checked out, along with my neuter this coming Tuesday. I was really happy to ride with the nice volunteers and kept giving them kisses to let them know how happy I was. The shelter told DC SIR that I tested great with cats and dogs. When I arrived at Shiba HQ, the volunteers noticed that I was very dirty and smelled bad too. They got me into the shower and saw that the water was running a dark brown. I was shampooed at least 4 times until the water started to run clear. I didn’t protest all but I didn’t really understand what was going on in this shower thing. Boy was I happy when it was done! I got a lot of yummy treats for being so good and I felt great too.

DC SIR doesn’t normally integrate dogs in the evening, but because I was so friendly with everyone, they got a flashlight and let me meet all the other dogs outside. Everyone loved me, I guess I am just that loveable! I am very gentle with people and I am savvy at reading other dog’s body language, so I will back off if they are uncomfortable with me being too close. DC SIR thinks I will be very popular because of my great disposition and adorable under bite. I may not be a purebred Shiba Inu, but I am a very sweet and loving boy that is so grateful to be part of the DC SIR family. I spent the night with the other fosters in the main room and did great. My new foster family is picking me up from Shiba HQ this morning and I will be living with a 2-year-old Shiba Inu. Please share my story to help me find my pawfect forever home.
