Hello everyone, my new name is now Kukaku, which is the first name of a strong female anime character, Kukaku Shiba, leader of the Shiba house and fireworks specialist. I am a 1-year-old female Shiba Inu mix from a NC shelter. I was adopted from the shelter back in October. I was returned to the shelter just a couple weeks later because I had a broken leg and the adopters didn’t want to deal with it. Thankfully, I was able to stay in a foster home with the shelter until DC SIR could bring me to one of their foster homes! I just had surgery and will be restricted to a limited range of motion. The shelter said I am a people lover and seek out attention from anyone who is willing to give me some love.

I’m a very high-energy pup so I will need an active family to love me! I had a really long transport to Shiba HQ today and I rode with another Shiba who also came from the same shelter. When we were transported to the DC SIR volunteer we showered her with kisses! I just knew we would be going somewhere special! It took all day with nice people volunteering to drive me, but we arrived at Shiba HQ while it was still daylight! After exploring the yard, I got to meet two neutral dogs, Katniss and Buddy. I liked them right away and wanted to run and play with them, but I’m still healing from my surgery. I liked everyone I met and soon I was with all the foster dogs. I know to back off when another dog growls at me and I love to play with the friendly dogs.

You may notice I have really big ears; that is so I can hear all the nice things you say to me! I’m not a full Shiba Inu, but I am full of love. DC SIR is going to keep me at Shiba HQ for my initial medical assessment to ensure my leg is healing well. I will go to my foster home when they feel I am strong enough. Once DC SIR feels they have a good assessment of my health and temperament, which is a minimum of 2-weeks, I will be available for adoption! Please share my album to help me find a loving forever home!
