Hello everyone, my new name is now Sencha which is a Japanese green tea. I am an 8-year-old female Shiba Inu and my owner left me at Animal Control in NC. I was transferred to a shelter where they treated me for worms and cared for my skin bald and itchy skin. The people at the shelter were really nice. They saw that I was sad and confused to be living in a shelter after having a home my whole life. Once DC SIR found a foster home for me, they scheduled all my vetting including finally getting spayed. Everything is so new and scary to me, especially after the surgery. But after 2 weeks, I will finally be leaving the shelter and going to a foster home where I will live in a home with two other Shibas and a loving foster mom who sacrificed her holidays to save my life.

I had a really long transport to Shiba HQ. I got to ride up to VA with another rescue from the same shelter. We were so happy to see the DC SIR volunteer and we gave her kisses all over. Once we were on the road, I cried a bit and the nice volunteer pulled over to comfort me until we started the ride again. I didn’t know where I would go next. I didn’t want to go to another shelter and sleep alone in a cage. It took all day with nice people volunteering to drive me to Shiba HQ! Once I arrived, I got to explore the yard with the other rescue who travelled with me from NC. After some time, we got to meet the neutral dogs, Katniss and Buddy. I growled a bit at them when they got too close. As long as they didn’t spend too much time in my face I was fine with them.

DC SIR noticed that I have very dry and brittle fur and infected and yeasty skin. It’s a good thing I will be on their awesome allergy program! I’m still a bit under the weather from my recent spay. Tomorrow I am going to an adoption event where my foster mom will pick me up and take me to my foster home. I will be living with 2 other Shibas. Once DC SIR feels they have a good assessment of my health and temperament, a minimum of 2-weeks, I will be available for adoption! Please share my album to help me find a loving forever home!

FOSTER UPDATE: Sencha is an 8-year-old small red female Shiba Inu that came to our rescue from an NC shelter. She had infected and itchy skin and sparse fur. Sencha was spayed and has been thriving in rescue. Sencha lives with two other female Shiba Inus and gets along great with both of them. Sencha is known as a cuddler in her foster home and she can be vocal about getting her loving when she wants the love!

Sencha can be mildly leash reactive when other dogs spend too much time in her face but this has been easily managed. Sencha would do great with a family that would love to take her everywhere with them. She travels well and enjoys going on adventures with her foster mom. Sencha has mild but long-term allergies which have turned some of her skin black. She is thriving on a raw diet. We are requiring she maintain this diet and continue care under a holistic/integrative vet to ensure a drug-free life with optimal health.
