Riku

Adoption status: Adopted!

Hi, my name is now Riku. I was surrendered to a shelter in Alabama. My owners said they took me to vets and they couldn’t fix me so they dumped me in the shelter. They even put on my paperwork that I may need to be put to sleep! You see, I have severe allergies. I am missing a lot of fur, and what I do have is dry and brittle and flakey. I was not neutered, and tested heartworm positive at the shelter. Thankfully, the nice people at the shelter knew that they didn’t have to kill me. They found me a foster home where I stayed for a couple weeks. But then they returned me to the shelter because I didn’t get along with their dogs.
This is when the shelter posted a video of me, with patchy-fur, shaking and skinny on the internet. DC SIR saw it and jumped at the chance to help me heal. They have an incredible allergy program that fixes the underlying cause and they do it by making me healthy from the inside out! But my case is a little different than the rest because I also tested positive for heartworm. This means I may need a longer recovery time in rescue. They need to test the load of HW to see what treatment I will need.
