I was dropped off at a shelter in WV as a stray. The shelter said I was in bad shape. I was bald, had worms and infections. They held me for awhile and tried to find my family but no one came for me. I was so scared and I shook with fear waiting for my fate. For a month, the nice people at the shelter treated myinfections and skin issues but 5 of my nails have grown into my pads and it hurts to walk. With so many dogs to care for no one saw how bad my nails were and I just kept to myself in pain.

After a month, I began to think this cold cage and loneliness would be my home. But some nice people told DC SIR about me! They saw right away how my eyes pleaded to be saved. They didn’t know too much about me but they did know I need medical care and a loving home to heal. So without knowing anything more than I’m nice to people and have severe skin dermatitis, they got volunteers to drive to WV the very next day to rescue me.

I’m in need of full medical care, including heartworm test, bloodwork, deworming, micro chip and vaccinations. DC SIR volunteer spent the first night bathing me & clipping my painfully long nails. They had to buy special clippers to remove the wrapped nails. I also have bad kennel cough.

We estimate her age to be around 5 years old. If in a home with another dog, it would be best if the dog was calm or ignored Saya. She doesn’t like to interact with dog and prefers to cuddle with people. Saya does well in a home with multiple dogs (5 -10 in foster care) but doesn’t interact with other dogs.

Cats: Good with resident cat
Dogs: Good with most dogs (not puppies)
Kids: Very people friendly
Location: Extended
