Hello everyone, my name is now Kansha, and it means ‘appreciation or gratitude’ in Japanese. I am a 9-year-old female, Shiba Inu. I have only ever lived with one family my whole life, but their life circumstances have changed, so they found DC SIR and felt comfortable with finding me a loving forever home. I am a tiny Shiba Inu at only 16 lbs. I have had to live outside during the day and sleep indoors at night. But I’ve been a house dog most of my life. Let me tell you a bit about my medical history when I was a young puppy; I almost died after my vaccinations. I had immediate and severe reactions, which left me hospitalized for some time. Luckily, my family worked with the veterinarian to obtain my Virginia State waiver from any further vaccinations. DC SIR was given all medical, along with my AKC papers and state waivers. I have had regular vet care, and other than my severe reaction to vaccinations, I am a healthy and active Shiba Inu who appears much younger than my nine years.
I had a long drive from southern VA to Shiba HQ. I was happy to see the volunteer who did my intake and jumped up on her for pets. Once I arrived at Shiba HQ, I got to explore the yard. I haven’t been around dogs since I was a puppy, and DC SIR was told I don’t do well with other dogs. So they brought out Katniss, the rescue’s neutral testing dog. I snapped at her at first but soon got along well with her. In time, I met all the rescues at Shiba HQ, and I would snap at their face to let them know to back off and give me room. Everyone was great about this, and the volunteer ensured I had enough space as I settled into my new environment. I was integrated with the group in an hour, and I even got to eat my yummy raw meal with everyone else! Tomorrow I will go to my foster home where I will be an only dog, but DC SIR thinks I can do just fine around other dogs for walks and adventures. I have regularly gone to boarding, and I do well meeting people and being handled. I am a high energy girl for my age; I’m a bolter and a jumper, but I hope to find a loving family to give me a forever home.
