Hi everyone, my name is now Ren and it means "lotus" (蓮) in Japanese. I am a 6-month-old red male Shiba Inu puppy! I am a big boy, weighing in at 23 lbs but I am a lovebug! Our mom loved us very much, but due to difficult life circumstances, she was unable to keep us. Fortunately, she reached out to DC SIR on the same morning their Intake Director happened to be driving from North Carolina to Virginia. Several dedicated volunteers quickly organized the long transport to Shiba HQ. When we arrived at Shiba HQ, I explored the yard with my sister and met the resident Shibas. But when it was time to go in, I ran from my foster mom! She tried luring me with boiled chicken and other goodies, but I wasn’t having it. My foster mom spent nearly an hour trying to catch me! Boy, things have changed! The next day, we bonded, and now I come as soon as she calls my name because I know something great will happen, from praise and pets to treats and tug! I am a sweet boy and very gentle. I let my little sister take toys from me, and even though she is half my size, she can boss me around. I get along with everyone in my foster home and even got one of the seniors, Stella, to play with me! I like to cuddle, so expect some lap time from me! I even let the 17-year-old cat sleep in my dog bed with me. I am super smart too! I learned how to use the dog door right away. I love playing fetch! DC SIR will likely try to adopt me with my sister as we are obviously very close.
