Hello everyone, my new name is now Koyo and it means, “Autumn Leaves.” I am a 20 pound, senior male Shiba Inu! I was “found as a stray” and taken to a Pennsylvania shelter. That is another way of saying my family couldn’t be bothered with me and let me loose on the streets to fend for myself. The shelter notified DC SIR. But they had a lot of senior and medical debt so I had to wait a couple weeks until they could finally bring me in. When they found a foster, DC SIR asked their fans for financial help and so many wonderful people came together. This is a good thing because they say my teeth are in bad shape and I will need dental work. They think I may be sore from arthritis too, but changing my diet will help determine what issues are nutritional and what is more pervasive. I am really skinny but they were happy to see me eat up all my food!
I had a long drive to Shiba HQ and when I arrived there, I got to explore the yard. That didn’t last long and soon I was in a shower getting lathered up! I didn’t like that too much but I endured my bath and towel dry. Once I was clean and dry I actually felt really good and I shook my tail and did a few zoomies! I wouldn’t let the volunteer trim all my nails so they are going to have that done when I go under for my dental.
It’s been real hectic at Shiba HQ so they haven’t had time to properly introduce me to a lot of dogs. But I did ok with a couple other rescues I met. I growled a bit at the boys but the girls seemed ok when we were in the yard together. DC SIR has a wonderful senior program so they will give you updates on my progress. Please share my story. Seniors like me don’t get a lot of applications. But now that I am with DC SIR, I have a chance to be loved, clean, well-fed and even happy! Please consider making a donation to Koyo’s fund so that I can get all the medical care I need! Email adoption@dcsir.org and tell them that you’d like to adopt Koyo!
