Misaki

Adoption status: Adopted!

Hi, my name is now Misaki. I was one of the Missouri 8, the puppy mill dogs rescued by DCSIR. I could tell you about the misery I experienced in the puppy mill, but words wouldn’t do it justice. I still have nightmares about being back in the small, cramped cage. Sometimes when I’m sleeping it’ll feel like I’m back there, and I’ll cry until I wake myself up and realize that everything is okay. Anyway, I don’t want to remember the past. I’d rather tell you about my present, which is hard sometimes, but is getting better every day!

I never learned much growing up in the puppy mill, but I did learn one thing. People are mean and hurt me. I shake and crouch down when I see them, because I don’t want them to hurt me. My foster dad is okay I guess, but I’m still going to keep my distance for a while. He brings me weird animal-looking things, which he calls ‘toys’. I’m not quite sure what to do with them. Sometimes my foster dad will wrap me in something called a ‘harness’ and attach this thing called a ‘leash’, but they don’t make much sense. I do know to go potty outside, though, which seems to make him very happy. The best thing about my foster home is that there are other Shibas there like me! Having them around makes things a lot less scary. They seem to like it here, so it can’t be all bad, right? And there’s chicken! I never had it before, but it really tastes good! I know I have a lot to learn, but won’t you please share my story, consider taking me into your heart, and giving me a forever home?

Please email adoption@dcsir.org and tell them you’d like to adopt Misaki!
