Ayame

Adoption status: Adopted!

Ayame

Hello everyone, my new name is now Ayame. I’m a 3-year-old female Shiba Inu and I am tiny at just 16 lbs! I was surrendered at a local shelter when my owner had to move and he couldn’t take me with him. I was nervous when I first got to the shelter and I didn’t like being handled. DC SIR came to meet me the very next day after they heard about me. I was so nervous to meet these people and kept trying to squirm away to safety. But once they offered me treats, I was happy to do sits and downs, and even walk with other dogs! They called me sweet, and I don’t know what that means, but if it gets me treats, I’ll keep it up!

My previous owner told the shelter that I did ok with some dogs but not all dogs so I am going to be an only dog in my foster home. When DC SIR got me to Shiba HQ they trimmed my nails and I squirmed a bit but it wasn’t too big of a deal. I didn’t mind being handled when I arrived at DC SIR. I got a new collar and I was fitted for a harness. DC SIR said I will need to learn some leash manners because I pulled a lot when I went on my walk at the shelter. I really liked the treats they gave me and I also liked exploring the yard. DC SIR doesn’t know too much about me but they said that I will have my own album with all my adventures while in foster care, so everyone who is interested in adopting me can follow my journey and learn about my personality. So far, DC SIR says I am a healthy and people friendly Shiba Inu who would just love to have a forever home! I’ve done well with other dogs in a room and can go on walks but they will tell you more about me and if I can go to a home with other dogs as they get to know me. I hope you will share my story and help me find a forever home!  Ayame will require a 2 week behavior and health assessment prior to being available for adoption.  Email adoption@dcsir.org  and tell them that you’d like to adopt Ayame!
