Hi! My new name is Eko and I am a very special Shiba mix puppy. I was found abandoned outside at about 4 weeks old & taken in by a Good Samaritan. They tried for weeks to find me a good home but it was difficult. You see I am deaf & might have a neurological issue. Another kind family saw my need for immediate medical care & brought me to the DC area so I could start getting the medical treatment I needed. When I first came to the 2nd family I fell over a lot and couldn’t hold my head up or walk in a straight line. It was suggested by the vet that they give DC SIR a call to help in finding my forever home since they have experience in special needs dogs.
Since I have been in my temporary home I’ve had excellent medical care, I can walk a straight line, sit to hand signal and even give paw! My head still wobbles but DC SIR is going to do everything they can to get me tip top so that I have a chance of being adopted into a pawfect forever home.
I might be deaf but that doesn’t define me; I am not some timid pup. I am super smart and already learning signs for things like sit, good job and down. I am learning to ring bells to let everyone know when I want to go outside and how to walk on a harness so I can explore. I love playing outside, lately I’ve been enjoying jumping into leaf piles or running around the backyard.
I have lived for a while with two awesome foster sisters, one who is also deaf, and we get a long great. I would play with them ALL the time if I could. DC SIR says I am going to get to meet a lot of really nice dogs and have special play dates with some DC SIR Alumni.
