My name is Mika, and I am a Mill Dog. I have never known the gentle caress of a loving human companion. I have never felt the softness of a clean bed. I have never heard a soothing word or praise. I have never had a toy. I have never laid back my ears, squinted my eyes, or shook my butt and howled a Shiba welcome in anticipation of a family member’s arrival. I have never felt the comfort of a human when I was terrified or lonely. Thankfully, I ended up in a shelter that took good care of me. But I was scared here too. There are so many sounds and sights I am not used to. Luckily, the shelter searched for Shiba rescues and found DC SIR! As soon as they heard my story they found me a foster home and set up a transport. I got spayed and was on a long drive to Shiba HQ by the end of the week! When I arrived at Shiba HQ I met a lot of nice dogs. The volunteers tried to give me boiled chicken but I preferred to run in the yard.
Soon my tail was up and I was running with the other dogs and sniffing so many stories. I finally went up to the lady at Shiba HQ because all the other dogs kept going up to her and seemed to like her. After a while my foster family came to meet me and take me to a new temporary home with soft beds to sleep on and nutritious food. I kept trying to get back outside through these things called mirrors. There are a lot of confusing things in homes. But DC SIR said they will teach me how to live with all these new comforts. They put me into a harness. I didn’t protest but I didn’t like it much. I just found a soft rug to nap on. I hope when I wake up that harness will be gone. My foster mom was very gentle with me and carried me out to the car.
