Hello everyone, my name is Aiya and it means “beautiful silk” in Japanese. I am a 1-year-old, female Shiba Inu. I’m small at just 21lbs! I was bought off craigslist last year, but I haven’t been getting along with the resident dog who is bigger than me. So my owners contacted DC SIR to help me find a home where I can safely play with other dogs. Know what’s funny, DC SIR reached out to the original owners who sold me on craigslist last year but they never replied to them. When you place Shibas like me with rescue they do everything they can to assess us and make sure we go to a forever home. On rare occasions when it doesn’t work out, DC SIR takes us back until we find the right home.

So let me tell you about myself. I am a typical Shiba Inu! I am independent and headstrong but I will love you if you bond with me. I was getting bullied by the resident dog who was much bigger than me, but I played well with dogs my size and smaller than me! However, in the past year my owners said I began guarding my food and treats from other dogs. This would need to be managed if I went to home with another dog. When the volunteer picked me up she gave me yummy boiled chicken and I ate it all. When I arrived at Shiba HQ I first met the neutral dog, Katniss. We did great together so I met everyone else right away! I even played with the Big Boi, Reo! DC SIR says I do great with body handling and think I would benefit with an active family who will keep me busy and engaged. I also met the resident cat, Sir Kitty Kitty, and passed the kitty test! My foster dad picked me up this morning so I will be living in an apartment as the only pet.

DC SIR will let you know more about me as I settle into my new home. They think I will be really popular so if you think we would be a good fit, then please send in your application to adopt me. I am medically cleared for adoption but will require my 2 week behavior assessment. Be sure to follow my album to learn more about me!
