Hello everyone, my name is now Bonta, after the anime bear character. I am a senior, male Shiba Inu. I was recently surrendered by my family to a shelter. I was scared of living in the shelter and didn’t understand why I lost my home. I thought that I would die here, with no home where I could sleep on a soft bed and no family to comfort me when I got confused. But something wonderful happened, the shelter contacted a Shiba Rescue that always makes space for senior dogs like me. They worked with the shelter to get me neutered, up to date on vaccinations and my primary medical care. I have dry fur, and I am missing fur from my rear. It took a couple weeks for a home to open up, but this weekend I finally got to leave the shelter!
A DC SIR volunteer picked me up along with two other senior Shiba Inus who also lost their home. It was a long drive to Shiba HQ, but I sat quietly in my crate. When I arrived at Shiba HQ, I got to explore the yard with the other seniors that rode with me. Soon I met all the other fosters dogs, and I got along great with everyone. Then the DC SIR volunteer carried me to the bathroom for a shower. I was really dirty, and she got all the grime off me and trimmed my painfully long nails. It felt so much better to have short nails. I kind of yelled at her when she cut them but she took her time to make me feel comfortable and now it won’t hurt to walk. Once I dried off, I learned how to use the doggie door, and I went outside and took a nap in the winter sun. The volunteer brought me back in to eat a meal and take a nap in a private room. I ate all my raw food and slept so deep!
