Hello everyone, my name is now Kana and it means “one who is powerful” in Japanese. I am a 2-year-old, female Shiba Inu. I’m small at just 20lbs! I’ve had two homes in my short life. At first, I lived with a woman and a Samoyed and we got along great because we played and played and played! I was registered as an Emotional Support Dog (ESA) for my owner. However, when she moved overseas she could only take one dog and I was placed with another family. The home I went to had a senior dog around 11 years old and he didn’t want to play with me like my old friend. He growled at me and I became increasingly more reactive to him. I started to get reactive around treats and food too. I used to eat treats with my friends but now I’m defensive and get upset when other dogs are near me and food. Thankfully, my family worked with DC SIR to get me into their breed-specific rescue.
I had a meet and greet with the neutral dog, Katniss. We got along great at first and I showed her how fast I could run. When we had to move to a smaller dog park no one could catch me! They tried with treats but I’d grab ‘em and run. I’m super fast. When the volunteer brought out a treat and tried to give it to me away from Katniss I got upset and jumped Katniss. She yelled back at me too but we were fine together in just minutes but the volunteer could see I got really worked up about treats. Everyone thinks I would do best with a very active family and if my food reactivity can be managed, I’d do great with another friendly and high energy dog to keep me company. DC SIR is going to continue to assess me in a multi-dog home to see how well I can be reintegrated with friendly dogs. I really do love to meet new dogs and play with them! I love being at Shiba HQ and I ran with all the DC SIR foster and alumni dogs. No one could catch me because I am so fast!
