Hello everyone, my name is now Keshi, and it means poppy in Japanese. I am a 4-year-old, female Shiba Inu and Pomeranian mix. My dad is a Shiba Inu, he’s in rescue now too, and my mom is a Pomeranian that lives with extended family. I am in rescue at no fault of my own. My people have a family emergency that has taken them to a place where we can’t come along. I am thankful they ensured my dad, and I would be safe and comfortable in foster homes instead of being put in a shelter. I’m a little chunky and have a big voice, but I am the sweetest little girl that wants to love you and cuddle on your lap once I know that you will be my friend. DC SIR heard that I don’t like my paws touched at all, so my nails were quite long. I am usually muzzled for nail trims but the volunteer at DCSIR took her time and trimmed all 10 of my nails during my shower. I didn’t make a peep, but I’m sure she’ll hear me scream if she tries that again! Although I’m supposed to work on having a good association with nail trims in the future, so we’ll see how that goes.

When I got to Shiba HQ, I got to meet all the other rescues in foster care, and I did great with everyone. I don’t growl at anyone, but I was a little shy and tried to hide behind the volunteer or my dad. I liked to follow my dad everywhere to make sure he wasn’t going to leave me alone in this new place. Once I realized the volunteers were friendly, I crawled up in their lap for comfort. Soon I was comfortable enough to take yummy treats and even eat a bit of food. My previous owners don’t think my dad, and I are a bonded pair so we can go to separate homes. I really would love to have a family who will give me lots of love and attention. My personality is a lot like a Pomeranian – I love to cuddle with my people and sitting on your lap is the best thing! I can bark loud when I meet a new dog on a leash, but once we sniff each other I’m ok with everyone!

DC SIR will tell you more about my personality as they get to know me, so please follow my rescue journey and share my story to help me find a forever home!
