Hello everyone, my name is now Kuriimu, and it means ‘cream’ in Japanese. I am a 4-month-old, female, Shiba Inu. I was living with a family, but one day, they lost their home and signed me over to a police officer, and I was taken to a local shelter. I’m a spunky girl and haven’t been socialized much. Luckily, the staff at the shelter helped me with handling and basic training, but it still took some time to get a collar on me or just handle me for vetting. The shelter decided to spay me, so I got all my medical done at once while I was under anesthesia. The staff noticed that I’m a handful and need extra attention to help me become a good Shiba when I turn into an adult. I got to meet one of the DC SIR volunteers at the shelter, and I let her know how strong my baby teeth are! I didn’t like my head being touched or being picked up. But she brought yummy treats and kept telling me how good I was every time I showed good behavior! I didn’t do great with my first dog assessment. I started playing with another dog, then I got snappy. So they tested me with stuffed dogs. I did good and got to meet a real puppy! The DC SIR volunteer saw I have a lot of potential to be a good Shiba with the right training and environment, so I got accepted to come to the DC SIR family! I was really happy to go on a walk to the car, but I got very nervous in the car. When I arrived at Shiba HQ, the volunteer worked on my recall and handling while I got to explore the yard. After I settled down, I got to meet neutral rescue dog, Katniss. All went well with her, and I got to meet Misa and other Shibas. I got along with everyone! I also got to meet a cat, Kitty, and groomed his ears! I don’t have good ‘bite inhibition’ which means the pressure I place when I bite is hard and that I likely didn’t have the appropriate socialization to learn this. DC SIR says I am very food motivated and eager to please so with a so follow my story and see if I may be a good fit for your family! I will require a reward-based training contract too!
