Hello everyone, my name is now Nata, short for Hinata, which means ‘one sunshine’ in Japanese. I was born in July of 2016 and I already have a little puppy girl of 4-months. I was living in a home but my family no longer had time for us, so they took me and my baby to an Alabama shelter. The shelter knew this environment wasn’t good for us and their foster homes were filled so they reached out to Shiba Inu Rescues. DC SIR immediately said they would take us into their home even though we were outside their typical intake area. They reached out to all their contacts across the East Coast to help with our transport but it seemed that we’d need to stay in the shelter for a bit. Then someone volunteered to drive for an entire day to pick us up in Alabama and the nice people at the shelter also drove 4 hrs round trip to help us get into a home! It was a long drive and we snuggled up to the volunteers during the drive.

We arrived at Shiba HQ late in the evening and I got a quick shower and yummy food. I started to relax and gave kisses to my rescuers. Soon I knew I was safe and played with my baby girl. I got a nice neck and back massage from my foster mom too. We got to sleep in our own room filled with soft beds and toys. In the morning, we had breakfast and got to explore the backyard. We met a couple nice resident dogs and I kissed everyone I met on the face to let them know how sweet I am! The freedom was so fun! I love to chase a ball and my baby and I got to run and run and run!!! We were so excited to have so much space to run in! DC SIR says I’m a really good mom and thinks I may be a perfect ambassador for the Shiba Inu breed! Both myself and my baby are going to need full medical care including core vaccinations, microchip, spay, and wellness check. Please consider donating to our care and note your donation is for Nata and her pup! I’m told that DC SIR has a great puppy socialization program so look for these adventures with me and my pup!

FOSTER UPDATE: Nata is a petite 1.9-years-old cream Shiba Inu with a big personality. She and her young puppy, Niki, were dumped in an Alabama shelter. We moved quickly to get them into a foster home so they could have a safe and enriching life. Nata has been a great mom to her Shiba/Chihuahua mix. Nata is still a young pup herself and has a lot of energy. She is in a multi-dog home and for the most part has gotten along with most of the dogs. However, she can be reactive to dogs she knows re-entering a room or dogs that have been away for a few hours coming back into a room. We have had to update Nata to “No Cats” as she has been exhibiting high prey drive in the presence of the resident cat. We feel Nata would do best in a home as the only pet.

As for people, Nata LOVES meeting new people! She puts on her airplane ears, squinty eyes, shaky butt, and howly howls whenever guests come by. Nata LOVES to cuddle on the couch with her foster family and will often fall asleep draped across their neck. Nata is gentle with people and would do great with a social family. Nata loves squeaky balls and especially small squeaky balls. She will bring you balls to throw for hours! Nata is a high energy Shiba and will require an active family that can match her energy level. She would thrive in reward-based training classes, agility, or other cognitive and energy appropriate activities.

Cats: No
Kids: 12 yr+
Weight 12lbs
DOB: July 2016
Intake Date: 3/7/18

*No Dog Determination: because she has been unpredictable in her likes/attacks on other dogs to the point it is quite a time-consuming endeavor to keep her fully integrated, we decided to make her requirement as an “only dog.” This does not mean she can’t still do great with other dogs and have playmates and even a fur sibling down the road (they would need to be appeasing and likely a male). However, we don’t want to put her under any more undue stress.
