Hello everyone, my name is now Niki which means ‘two forces of yin and yang’ in Japanese. I’m a female pup born in December of 2017. My mom is a cream Shiba Inu and my dad is a Chihuahua. I was living in a home but my family no longer had time for me and my mom so we were taken to an Alabama shelter. The nice people there made sure I was protected and separated from other dogs so I wouldn’t get sick but they kept my crate near my mom. We were only in the shelter 2 days as we waited for DC SIR to find a driver to pick us up. I was so excited to be back with my mom and I love everyone I meet so I kissed the DC SIR volunteers every time I woke up from my naps. When we arrived at Shiba HQ late at night we got our own room where I got some yummy food, a bed, fresh water and toys. Oh, boy, do I love toys! I think all the toys in the world belong to me so I like to gather them up in my crate. I even took toys from my mom. She is trying to teach me to share but being an only pup, everything is mine!

DC SIR says I will be integrated into a multigenerational dog home so that I learn proper puppy manners. They will also be doing puppy socialization and confidence building during my critical developmental period. DC SIR makes reward-based training and socialization a priority for young pups like me! DC SIR thinks I will be a small dog. I’m really tiny for my age but I have a BIG personality. My foster mom calls me a firecracker! I’m not shy either, I’ll explore new things before my mom will! I’m a brave girl. I got to meet a few of the dogs at DC SIR and I went right up to them and said hello. Everyone was soooo nice. When I went outside I went zoom zoom zoom! It’s so fun to do the zoomies! I love my raw diet and I am very responsive to training already. If you are interested in me, DC SIR says to check out their informational puppy page on their website. It’s really important I have a family that will ensure I get the appropriate reward-based training to be a happy and well-adjusted Shibuahua!
