Hello everyone, my name is now Nori, and it means, ‘to rule’ in Japanese. I am a tiny 12-year-old, female, Shiba Inu. I was found wandering the streets in Virginia Beach. A family found me and took me to the vet where they gave me shots and drugs. The family posted my story as a lost dog, but no one claimed me. The family that rescued me thinks that I was probably dumped on the street just before the holidays because I am old and sick and have become a burden. Thankfully, this family contacted DC SIR, and they agreed to take me in and help me heal.
Since there is no history on me, DC SIR will need to have me checked out by their vet to look for any underlying illness along with treating my canine atopic dermatitis. I have a head tilt and tend to circle, so DC SIR thinks I have vestibular disorder, but this along with all my other health issues will be addressed at my vet appointments. I am tiny at 15lbs, but I can move fast! I am crate trained and did well on the drive to Shiba HQ with two other senior Shibas that were rescued. Once I arrived at Shiba HQ, I got to explore the yard with the other seniors. Soon the volunteer took me up for my bath and nail trim. I was calm while being cleaned but I did let out a Shiba scream when she trimmed my nails. I am missing a lot of fur and have yeasty skin, but DC SIR knows how to help me get better! Once I was clean, I got to explore the house. I met a couple of cats who were nice, and I got along with every dog I met. I ate my yummy raw food then I took a nap in a crate. The crate had a red light machine that helps me heal called Photobiomodulation. It felt nice, and I slept right away.
I have a long recovery ahead of me, but DC SIR ensures all their dogs are healthy before adoption, and their Allergy Program may take time, but that means I will be in tip-top shape for my family. I may not be a cute young puppy that gets all the applications, but I am hoping to get that one application from a family who will give me the love I desperately desire. Please consider donating to my fund to help me heal & share my story to help me find a forever family.
Location: Extended
Dogs: Yes
Cats: Yes
Kids: yes
Weight: 15lbs
Intake Date: 1/5/19
Available Date: 2/20/19
Considerations: Has vestibular but made significant improvement while in rescue. All fur has grown back and bloodwork is great. We have a *Spay exception* for Nori due to her age. She has not been spayed but our vet feels that the dangers of going under with vestibular is best avoided.
