Hello everyone, my name is now Pochi, and it’s a popular dog name in Japan. I am a 5-year-old, male Shiba Inu. I am in rescue at no fault of my own.My people have a family emergency that has taken them to a place where we can’t come along. I came into rescue with my daughter, a Shiba/Pom mix. We aren’t bonded so we can be adopted separately. I am a small Shiba at around 18lbs. I am very friendly to people I meet, and I will come up to you for pets and scratches. I ride well in a car. I did great meeting the neutral dog, Katniss, on-leash. When I arrived at Shiba HQ, I got to explore the yard with my daughter, Keshi. Soon we got to meet new dogs one by one. I generally did great meeting the other fosterdogs in rescue but I was a bit growly and snappy at the boys I met. I suppose I prefer the ladies. DC SIR uses reward-based training and applies this to integrations as well. I wasn’t punished for growling because that’s how I let you know I’m not comfortable. Soon I was nicely integrated with everyone! Later it was time for my bath and nail trim. Typically, the vet trims my nails after sedating me and using a cone and muzzle. The DC SIR volunteer took her time making me feel comfortable and trimmed 8 of my nails! I had to yell at her for the other two but they are black nails, and she was nervous about trimming them. We’re going to work on that.
I am quite the cuddler when I want to be. You know Shibas, we like to cuddle on our terms. When I want you to pet me, I will paw at you or nuzzle your hand. I ate my raw meal next to all the other Shibas with no issues. I like food. I have been around cats before without any issues, but DC SIR will test me again with their resident cat once I settle in my foster home. I am an active Shiba, and I love to run around, but I also like to cuddle next to you for comfort.
