Reo came to DC SIR as a stray from an SC shelter. We consider him to be a gentle giant. He is just one year old and a bit fearful of strangers but once he knows he is safe he will try to sit in your lap as if he were still a small puppy! Reo had an eye infection when coming to rescue which is now cleared. He is a healthy, neutered and microchipped mix, and UTD on core vaccinations, who needs to put on a few pounds. He came into rescue all bones and is slowly filling out. We don’t expect Reo to get much bigger other than fill into a healthy weight.
Reo gets along with all the dogs in rescue but seems to play best with females or very friendly male dogs. He is fearful of reactive male dogs. Reo loves squeaky toys and will often collect them in a corner before he goes to bed. This sweet boy is so easy to please with simple toys, nutritious food and lots of love. Reo loves to cuddle on the couch with his foster family, and as we mentioned, plop in your lap for extra cuddles! It took just over a week to potty train peeing in the house but this should be quickly relearned in a new place with a proper introduction in the home. Reo has full access to the main floor when no one is home but he has been caught counter surfing and carrying his foster mom’s shoes when left alone. Simply putting away temptation and providing appropriate chews has helped this puppy learn good manners.
Reo is a sensitive dog with a lot of love to give. He would thrive in reward-based training classes and makes a loving family companion. He will need some confidence building around new places and people nothing some basic training and bonding won’t fix.
