Hello everyone, my name is now Rina and it means “white jasmine” in Japanese. I am a 4.5-year-old, red, female Shiba Inu. I’m a little heavy for my size, weighing in at 24lbs. I’ve had one home, and was very loved! My previous family recently had a baby, and we didn’t get along very well. This prompted them to reach out to DC SIR since they know how hard they work to find the best home for their fosters. I have longer fur than a typical Shiba, so I’m extra fluffy. I rode really well in the car with the DC SIR volunteers who drove all morning to help me get to Shiba HQ. I got a lot of yummy boiled chicken and cuddles on the trip. When I arrived at Shiba HQ I explored the yard on my own. Soon I met Katniss and puppy, Tsunami but I didn’t want them In my space so I growled at them to leave me alone. After I did zoomies around the yard and took tons of delicious treats, a nice volunteer noticed my nails were super long. Luckily it wasn’t so bad, the volunteer managed to cut all ten of them without any issues or Shiba screams. It feels so much better to have my nails trimmed off the ground. As I’ve been exploring, I have already managed to figure out some of the puzzle toys at Shiba HQ in record time! I’m one smart Shiba Inu. I’m also quite the people pleaser.

DC SIR thinks I’d do best as an only dog, in a child-free home, with a family who can give me a lot of attention and activities for us to do together. DC SIR says their raw feeding program should help me shed a few pounds, and make sure I’m at a healthy weight for my size. When my foster dad came to pick me up I greeted him with a shaky butt, airplane ears, and lots of kisses. I’m really a great greeter and love when people come to visit me! Do you think you will be a good fit for me? Keep an eye on my Facebook album to learn more about me! I know DC SIR volunteers put in a lot of work to ensure each and every rescue gets the best possible forever home and I will forever be part of a loving community that wants the best for me!

FOSTER UPDATE: Rina is a very people-friendly Shiba with humans in general, but would be best placed in a home with no children under 12 years of age. (This is a firm requirement; exceptions will not be considered). Rina has been loving going on long walks with her foster family. She especially likes to take her time and smell all the neighborhood, so she’s looking for a family that will indulge her outdoor spirit. Indoors, Rina likes to be a shadow, sticking close to humans so she can be in the same room as them. She has also been transitioning well to the raw diet.
