Hello everyone, my name is now Sho, and it means ‘to fly’ in Japanese. I am a stocky 28lb10-year-old, male Shiba Inu. I have only ever had one home, and I lived with an Akita. We got along ok, but I preferred being an only dog. My parents are getting a puppy in February, so they contacted DC SIR to find me a new home. I’m really a good boy and filled so much love and energy! I do love people and kids, and I’ll squint my eyes, shake my butt and give you kisses if you greet me with a friendly voice! When I got to the transport, the DC SIR volunteer had a lot of yummy treats for me. I really enjoyed them. I let her know that I wanted to sit next to her in the front seat and I sat very well for the entire drive to Shiba HQ.

When I arrived at Shiba HQ, I got to explore the yard on my own. Soon I met other friendly dogs. I was okay if they stayed out of my face. But the young ones kept trying to play with me, and I didn’t want to so I showed them my teeth so they would know to give me space. Everyone read my body language well, and we all hung out in the yard together. I got to go to a room that I could have all to myself and the volunteer. She gave me more treats and fitted me for a loose collar. I was walked on a collar, and it was so tight that my fur is missing in some places and my skin is red from the chaffing. DC SIR only walks Shiba’s in harnesses so my neck will be able to heal and the fur grows back. I’m not sure I like this harness thing yet, but I get treats every time she puts it on me, so I’m going to try and like it! I also have a skin tag on my eye, but the vet says it doesn’t get in the way of my health. I’m such a people pleaser that I know a forever family is out there for me! Do you have a home where I can be the only pet? I promise you I will give you all my wags, kisses, and howl with delight every time you come home.

DC SIR will tell you more about my personality as they get to know me, so please follow my rescue journey and share my story to help me find a real forever home!
