Hello everyone, my name is Takeo, and it means ‘warrior’ in Japanese. I am a 4-year-old, sesame, male Shiba Inu. You may remember me previously as I was returned to DC SIR after one month in an adoptive home. The adopters said I started to go after feet out of the blue. I was recently adopted and returned in just days without any training or work for the same issue. Unfortunately, DC SIR has noticed a big difference in my behavior since my adoptions. DC SIR worked with a trainer to identify why I went from a happy-go-lucky Shiba that loved to greet strangers to a stressed-out and anxious Shiba who now distrusts strangers and defensively charges feet. I’ve been in a foster home as the only dog for the past couple weeks since returning to DC SIR but I will be heading to Shiba HQ for more intensive care once the special needs Shiba there can be moved from their private room so that I can have a safe space while they work with me. My current foster family says that I can be very sweet and cuddly and that I have made progress on redirection when walking in crowded areas. However, I was startled when my fosters dropped a ball near my rear when I wasn’t looking and now I am nervous and stressed and I am watching their feet. Maybe I think they’ll kick me? No one is sure why this suddenly started. In my first foster home, I loved to greet strangers and never had an issue with anyone’s feet. I was always happy to greet strangers or my foster family, but now I don’t trust strangers. I still haven’t bitten anyone, but I can sound scary and I put my mouth on people to let them know I can be scary if I need to be! DC SIR is sad to see me changed how much my behavior has changed, but they are committed to getting me to trust people again. Please send pawsitive thoughts toward me as I try to regain my confidence and see my true forever home. I look forward to meeting you at an adoption event!
