Hello everyone, my name is now Toki, and it means, “time of opportunity” in Japanese. I am a 3-year-old female, black and tan Shiba Inu. I’m small and cute as a button. I came to DC SIR because my parents were getting divorced and neither one had time for me anymore. I also lived with two children, and did well with them. I did really well at my assessment with the neutral dog, Katniss. I’ll be at Shiba HQ for a couple days until my foster dad can pick me up. I will be the only dog there, but DC SIR thinks I may be a good candidate for a multi-dog home but they will let you know. I was nervous when I got in the DC SIR volunteer’s car, but not scared enough to refuse the yummy boiled chicken she kept offering me.

When I arrived at Shiba HQ, I explored the yard and got to meet several of the other dogs. I got along with every dog I met! I was still really nervous about letting the volunteer touch me, so I still have my harness on. After meeting all the dogs, I spent the first couple hours trying to get back to my family and crying at the gate I came in through. Why won’t they take me home? I was nervous despite the volunteer telling me that things will get better and I will be happy again. She promised I would have delicious food and great adventures! I can’t think about that right now, all I can think about is going home…well, that and the boiled chicken she keeps distracting me with! DC SIR has my medical records so they know I am healthy, but they heard I have luxating patella so that is something to think about in my long-term care. DC SIR thinks that I am just about the perfect pup that needs some time to adjust to new people and a new environment. So watch my album for updates and tell DC SIR you would like to adopt me when they say I am available!

FOSTER UPDATE: Toki is now officially available for adoption! Toki came to DC SIR because her parents were getting a divorce and couldn’t care for her anymore. Toki is an adorable 3.5 year-old, female, black and tan Shiba Inu. She is high energy and very active, so she’ll need a family who can keep up with her. She lives for toys, especially squeaky balls! She will expect to be the center of attention (and with her cute looks, who can blame her?!) Toki can be shy at first but once she trusts her human, she will want to be with them and feel comfortable meeting new people and dogs. Toshi attended DC SIR hikes and had a great time playing with other dogs! Overall Toki is a well-behaved dog. Toki would do well in a home where she has companionship during the day. As long as she has an owner that will play with her and give her the attention she needs, she does really well. she would thrive with owners willing to take her to reward based training.
