Hello everyone, my name is now Uki, and it means ‘float’ in Japanese. I am a 3-year-old, male Shiba Inu. My owners called DC SIR a year ago to surrender me and my housemate, Aya to rescue because they were allergic to us. But right before we were scheduled to come in my family changed their mind. A year later, DC SIR got another call wanting us surrendered again. DC SIR found out we were living in cages in the garage, so they moved our intake up ahead of other dogs, but my family stopped responding. This time my family called the local shelter to drop us off. The shelter had a wait list too, but a nice person there knew how scared we’d be in the system and called DC SIR. With the help of the shelter staff, we were finally released to DC SIR and a volunteer drove 8 hrs to make sure we’d get to foster care safely.

We were so excited to be out of the garage that we kicked and pranced around like crazy Shibas. DC SIR can tell we’ve not been walked because we have no leash manners at all. I was thrilled to greet everyone at the shelter, and I jumped up to give them my kisses. I get along really well with people, and my owner said that I am good with other dogs too. I did great meeting the other dogs at Shiba HQ. I even ate my first raw meal with all the other dogs and had no issues being in a big group. I was a good boy during my shower and only whimpered a bit, but my foster mom said I was, so I needed to be cleaned up. I’m all over the place in the house, and I jumped up and over furniture and tables but I may just be excited to be out of the garage! I do like to cuddle, and I already threw myself into my foster mom’s lap for some affection and scratches. DC SIR thinks I will significantly benefit from a reward-based training session to teach me basic manners. I’ll also need to learn how to walk on a leash. I had no medical care while with my owners and will require full wellness updates. Please consider donating to my fund to help me get ready for adoption!
