Hello everyone, my name is now Wakai and it means “young” in Japanese. I am a 1.5-year-old, male Shiba Inu. I’m small at just 20 lbs! I am in rescue at no fault of my own. My pawrents broke up and no one had time for me. Luckily, they took the time to get me safely to DC SIR. I have been well taken care of by my family. I get along with all dogs I meet, do well with cats, but I can be a little timid with strangers and children. DC SIR thinks I will be a great addition to a multi-dog home! I was a little nervous when I went with the DC SIR volunteer in her car, but I still took the yummy treats.

Once we arrived at Shiba HQ I got to explore the yard on my own. There were so many smells to smell and places to run around. Soon, I got to meet the other friendly Shibas at Shiba HQ. I got along with every dog I met. But I was still nervous and ran around the yard looking for a way home. After a bit, my foster mom brought me inside and I jumped on the couch and looked out the windows. I saw how comfortable and happy the other foster dogs were and I soon settled down and took a nap on the couch. Then my foster mom said something about a bath…since I am nervous around strangers, it took her some time to catch me. Then I got a bath and my nails trimmed. I wasn’t a fan of any of it but I didn’t make a peep! Once I was clean, I got to run outside with the dogs again. This time I played a bit with another friendly dog, Nariko. She kept chasing me and trying to get me to play and I got the zoomies after my bath so we ran around together. DC SIR will let you know more about me as I go through my 2-week behavior and medical assessment. They can tell I am fearful of strangers but will let you know more about this as I settle into my foster home. They can tell that I am more curious and confident when other dogs are around so I may do best in a multi-dog home. If you are interested in learning more about me, make sure to follow my album updates on Facebook!
