Hello, I am a 7-year-old, male, red Shiba Inu and my name is now Y?sha; it means “brave” in Japanese. I was surrendered to a shelter in Virginia Beach a couple of weeks ago when the only family I had ever known gave me up because they could no longer care for me. I lived with a mom, dad, and three children and never had issues with my people. My owners said I don’t always get along with dogs, but I did really well with meeting all the dogs at Shiba HQ. It took DC SIR some time to find me a foster home and volunteers to drive me up from Virginia Beach. I was just neutered and updated on my medical so I’m still recovering from that. When the volunteers came to pick me up from the shelter, I did well being handled. On my second leg of the transport, I got to sit in the volunteer’s lap. I kept pawing at her to remind her to pet me.

After I arrived at Shiba HQ, I got to meet the other Shibas. I met Koko and Katniss first. I chased Koko at first, but Katniss made me stop. With positive reinforcement of the proper greeting, I was soon integrated with all the dogs. I was having so much fun, but the volunteer picked me up and took me to the bathroom for a shower. That wasn’t too fun, but I was a really good boy and didn’t make a peep. I enjoyed the scritches during my bath. After I got dried off, I got to see the other dogs again and did zoomies with my new friends. I even showed the volunteer all my smart tricks I know like, “sit,” “down,” “paw,” “stand” and I also danced. DC SIR thinks I am going to be a very popular pup! I’m a handsome and fun-loving boy who has so much love to give a forever family! I learned how to use the doggie door in just two tries, and I did get along great with all the other dogs. I had a lot of fun playing with Keshi! DC SIR says I will need a minimum two-week behavior and medical assessment, but they think I’m going to do great with a variety of family environments. Please follow and share my story to help me find a forever home!
