Rescue Intake Assistant

The ideal DC SIR Rescue Intake Assistant assists the Rescue Intake Director in managing owner surrender calls. They will initially reply to intake inquiries. We will train them on basic counseling for owner surrender (OS), including: 1. Resources to keep their dog 2. Pros/Cons of self-placement 3. Pros/Cons of surrender to DC SIR. They will also work with third party shelters in coordinating the intake of Shiba Inus from Georgia to Pennsylvania.

This is a collaborative volunteer position that will have you working with several people. The ideal candidate must be able to work well with others, along with giving and receiving advice.

  • Maintain the current documents and assist Rescue Intake Director in managing documents
  • Maintain database of third party surrender sites for Shibas in need of rescue
  • Send follow up emails on intake status
  • Review OS forms for completion
  • Reach out to shelters that need assistance
  • Obtain medical/behavior information
  • Help coordinate transport of intakes
  • Set up intake assessments with OS
  • At times, hep with puppy mill rescue
  • Articulate intake information to Foster Director

Weekly hours:  1 – 2 hours. Varies depending on intakes, meets, and status of rescue dogs.

DC SIR does not have a shelter facility. To meet our adoptable dogs, interested adopters can attend one of our monthly adoption events.
