Bonding with your dog is fundamental to building a healthy relationship between you and them, and the world around them. Whether you have adopted a new dog that is a puppy, young adult or senior, lived with your dog for 10 years, or even if you are fostering a new dog, establishing a healthy bond with him/her will help ensure a meaningful relationship built on trust and rapport. What is your relationship like with your dog? Could it be better?

There are obvious reasons to bond with our dog, such as: they enrich our lives and give us unconditional love and companionship. There are also other reasons why bonding is important to our human-dog relationship as well, such as building recall and keeping our dog safe. But it might surprise you to know that our interactions with our furry companions also have a “measurable positive effect on our biochemistry.”
