My name is Asami, and I am a Mill Dog. I have never known the gentle caress of a loving human companion. I have never felt the softness of a clean bed. I have never heard a soothing word or praise. I have never had a toy. I have never laid back my ears, squinted my eyes, or shook my butt and howled a Shiba welcome in anticipation of a family member’s arrival. I have never felt the comfort of a human when I was terrified or lonely. The only comfort I have ever had was the short love I could give my puppies. I hope the people that bought them gave my puppies a better life than I have had in this concrete and metal jail. I know their parents think they saved my puppies, but they only prolonged my life of misery while lining the pockets of greed. In my soul I feel I am meant to run free with grass under my paws, the sun on my face and the wind in my fur. When DC SIR picked me up, I huddled close to my fursister, Kishi. But when they put me into another crate, they took their time and placed me in so gently.
I’m a very shy girl and I want to trust people. If they have boiled chicken I will come right up to them! So far, the best thing in rescue is all the yummy food and treats. I have a lot of scars on my face from when I was attacked by other dogs at the mill. I’m a very gentle girl and back down quickly if anyone growls at me. I do have more confidence when I am around my fursisters! I’ll take the tasty boiled chicken if my foster mom sits and looks away from me. I do love other dogs and follow them around. It’s too soon to tell, but DC SIR thinks that I will be able to trust people soon if they understand the proper way to interact with fearful dogs and slowly build confidence with positive human interactions. I know that I can have a good life. I have a hearty appetite and food motivates me to explore and trust. I heard rumors of dogs that are treated with dignity and showered with love. I hope to see that people can be kind. DC SIR promised this to us.
