Kyo is a 3 year old, male, black & tan Shiba Inu mix. See his Facebook album.

Hello everyone, my new name is now Kyo and it means “apricot.” I am a 3-year-old male Shiba Inu mix from a NC shelter. I was left there with my brother and we were very scared because if no one would take us we wouldn’t make it out of the shelter. Luckily, someone contacted DC SIR and saw how scared we looked in our pictures. The shelter told DC SIR how incredibly sweet we were. So they agreed to pull us and get all our much needed medical done. Unfortunately, when we were at the vet on the day DC SIR was to pick us up, they found out that I tested positive for Heartworm. This can be an expensive and a dangerous treatment, but DC SIR has success treating HW with their integrative vet.

Let me tell you a bit about myself. I rode very well in the car with the DC SIR volunteers (a 4.5 hr drive) and while my brother cowered next to me I reached out to one of the volunteers in the front seat for comfort. She saw I wanted to be comforted and came to sit with us in the back seat. I nuzzled my nose into her lap and accepted yummy treats. We arrived at Shiba HQ very late in the evening. Since we just had surgery, we didn’t get to meet the other dogs at Shiba HQ. We did get our very own room with soft plush beds, toys, and treats to make us feel at home. When my brother and I went out for potty breaks, it was obvious that we don’t know how to walk on a leash. We are always so happy to see each other and my brother and I shake our butts and kiss each other on the face as soon as we come back together after being separated. We were a bit mischievous and got into things in our private room so the volunteers had to put up gates to keep us from removing things from shelves. In the morning we got to run around in a back yard and boy did this make us happy! My brother and I pranced around with huge smiles! We love to play outdoors and we even met a few nice Shibas!

Because I have HW I will need to be in rescue longer than most dogs, please help DC SIR raise funds for my treatment so that I can have a chance at a real forever home! Donations can be made here (Add a note/comment that it’s for “Kyo’s Heartworm Treatment”)
