Hello everyone, my name is now Aya, and it means coloring in Japanese. I am a 2-year-old, female Shiba Inu. My owners called DC SIR a year ago to surrender me and my housemate, Uki to rescue because they were allergic to us. But right before we were scheduled to come in my family changed their mind. A year later, DC SIR got another call wanting us surrendered again. DC SIR found out we were living in cages in the garage, so they moved our intake up ahead of other dogs, but my family stopped responding. This time my family called the local shelter to drop us off. The shelter had a wait list too, but a nice person there knew how scared we’d be in the system and called DC SIR. With the help of the shelter staff, we were finally released to DC SIR and a volunteer drove 8 hrs to make sure we’d get to foster care safely.

We were so excited to be out of the garage that we kicked and pranced around like crazy Shibas. DC SIR can tell we’ve not been walked because we have no leash manners at all. I was very happy to greet everyone at the shelter and I jumped up to give them my kisses. I was excited for the freedom at Shiba HQ and I zoomed around everywhere. My family said I am dog-aggressive but I did really well meeting at the dogs at Shiba HQ. DC SIR will let you know if I need to be an only dog after my 2-week assessment. I will need to get spayed and get full medical – my owners never took us to the vet for basic care and core vaccinations. DC SIR was told that I’m kind of wild in the house, but I’m very smart, and I can learn quickly. I learned how to use the dog door in minutes! I am a 2-year-old with no training, so I will need a patient adopter to teach me how to be a well-mannered pup. I do great with body handling and didn’t make a peep during my shower! DC SIR will tell you more about my personality as they get to know me, so please follow my rescue journey and consider donating to rescue to help with my medical care.
