Hello everyone, my name is now Taroumaru, and it means “forever beautiful” in Japanese, but you can call me Tarou for short. I am a 5-year-old red male Shiba Inu. I’m a big boy, around 51 lbs, but I’m a gentle giant. DC SIR was contacted by a local shelter who told them that I was surrendered because my owners had medical issues that no longer allowed them to care for me. I was scared in the shelter but loved any attention the kind staff would give me. They said I am a super sweet and gentle boy. I previously lived with and got along with other dogs and cats. DC SIR quickly found a foster home with DC SIR alum so I can be around another friendly dog! The shelter helped DC SIR with a long drive to get me into a foster home! I was nervous and whimpered the first night, not knowing where my owner was or what would happen to me. My foster parents were kind and patient with me, knowing I needed extra love to adjust and to be assured I would be safe. Soon I realized I was safe, and I started to enjoy toys and tearing up the stuffing. I like to cuddle with my foster parents, and I get super happy when I see dogs on our walk! I love meeting people and dogs and just thinking that everyone is going to love me! My foster parents say I love to be petted, and playing fetch is my favorite game! If we aren’t playing fetch, I love to destuff toys! My medical is fully updated; I am neutered, microchipped, heartworm negative, and up-to-date on core vaccinations. I should be ready for adoption after the standard 2-week behavior and medical evaluation with the Rescue. If you think I could be part of your home, follow my story and photo album and let DC SIR know you’d love to have me in your home!
