Hello everyone, my name is now Moka, which means “sprout” or “bud” in Japanese. My foster family said this name suits me because I might be scared right now, but one day I’m going to blossom into something beautiful. I was rescued from a commercial breeding facility with 31 other Shibas, 12 of which went to DC SIR. I was obviously one of the most terrified Shibas in the group. When we arrived at Shiba HQ, I didn’t want to come out of my crate. I am a long-haired Shiba, but you wouldn’t know it because of my condition. I am all skin and bones, and my fur is mostly fallen out after having litters of puppies. The puppy mill I came from kept me in a cage all my life. Now that I can walk freely in the grass, I don’t really know how to walk. It feels so strange to stretch my legs. My foster family has another Shiba named Yama. He’s a puppy mill foster, too, just like me. He’s very confident now, and he came to sniff me, and I sniffed him back. I’m happy to see him when he’s in the backyard with me and my foster sister, Yuri. He’s very happy, so I know I will be one day too. When I’m inside, I don’t walk around much because I’m really scared of everything. My foster family leaves chicken and water out for me. I eat and drink when I feel brave enough to get up. They are giving me lots of space, which is what I need. I’ve started to explore the house a little more and found some quiet corners to sleep in. DC SIR thinks that I will be the most stunning Shiba when my fur grows back in lush and shiny! I have some omega supplements on my wishlist that can help me get better. I know I will adjust to my new life and find a forever family for me that will be patient and love me. I will need full medical before I am available for adoption!
