Hello everyone, my name is now April! I am a 27lb, 8-year-old female Shiba Inu rescued from a Maryland Shelter. I ended up in the shelter as part of a neglect case. I had lived with a variety of animals, including wild animals, without issue. I was so happy to be picked up by DC SIR volunteer! I paced a bit in the car for the long drive. I was then transferred to my foster mom for the remaining 3-hour drive. When I got to Shiba HQ, I explored the yard on my own and slowly met all the residents there. I didn’t have any issues during my meets, but sometimes I growl when a dog comes into my space quickly. Once I realized everyone was friendly and no one would hurt me, I got along great and made myself at home! I enjoy greeting everyone who comes over. I also like to nap in all the comfy dog beds and I will make sure that I take a bit of time to sleep in each one! I did great with the resident cat, too! If you invite me up on the couch, I will happily cuddle next to you. I learned the dog door very quickly, and I enjoy exploring the yard and sunbathing on nice sunny days. I walk well on a leash too! DC SIR volunteer said I was the easiest pup to groom! I did great in my bath and with my nail trim. I have painfully long nails that started to curl under and would hurt on hard surfaces. Once I was clean, I made sure to roll around in the grass to get that great natural smell, haha! I am scheduled to be spayed on May 2nd, and any other medical that comes up will be taken care of. If you can, please donate to help cover my medical costs. DC SIR thinks I will be a pawfect companion for a lucky home – if you think that could be you apply to adopt me at www.dcsir.org/adopt!
